4 Workplace Injuries That May Permanently Limit Your Ability to Work

December 22, 2021 by James Hoffmann

While most workplace injuries can be treated successfully, some injuries can lead to permanent disabilities or chronic pain that won’t go away.

Unfortunately, having a permanent impairment or chronic pain can turn your life upside down and could even limit your ability to do your job.

Crippling workplace injuries can take any form, but some are more common than others. Below, we’ll highlight four common work-related injuries that can limit your ability to work and earn a living.

1. Brain Injury

Your brain tissues are very delicate, and the impact of a workplace accident may cause them to tear, bruise, or rupture, resulting in a brain injury. Unfortunately, many brain injuries result in permanent disability and loss of bodily function, making the victim dependent on others for the rest of their life.

2. Eye Injuries

The eyes rank high on the list of the most vulnerable organs in the body. They can easily be injured by ultraviolet radiation, chemical splashes, or sharp foreign objects. The good news is that most eye injuries can be treated successfully.

However, some injuries may go deeper into the delicate eye tissues and cause lifelong vision issues or even blindness. If you’ve suffered a permanent eye impairment, your independence and mobility will likely suffer the most. It may also be challenging for you to return to your previous position or secure another job.

3. Amputation Injuries

Sometimes a work-related injury can cause limb amputation. This can have a profound and lifelong effect on your functioning, mobility, and agility. Not to mention the phantom pain where the missing limb was attached. The Effects may even be more severe if you’ve had multiple amputations.

4. Spinal Cord Injuries

A spinal cord injury is among the worst injuries that one can suffer. Work-related spinal cord injury can cause permanent paralysis. And you may have to rely on a wheelchair for your daily movements. A spine injury can also leave you with tremendous medical challenges.

Pursue Your Rights

If you have suffered a life-altering injury at work, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits. Workers comp can compensate you for the effect your permanent disability has had on your life.
