7 Important Documents to Provide Your Missouri Workers’ Comp Attorney

February 3, 2022 by James Hoffmann

These seven documents will help your Missouri workers comp attorney pursue the benefits you are legally entitled to after a work injury.

If you’ve been injured on the job, it’s generally best to speak with a workers’ compensation attorney to ensure you get the benefits you are legally entitled to. However, for your attorney to be effective in helping you, they need as much information as possible. That’s why it’s important to provide your attorney with all necessary documents. This article will outline seven of those documents are and why they’re important.

Medical records: Your medical records are one of the most important documents you can provide your workers’ compensation attorney. These records will show the extent of your injury and how it has impacted your life. They will also help to prove that work-related activities caused your injury.

Pay stubs: Your pay stubs are another important document to provide your workers’ compensation attorney. They will show how much money you’ve earned since the injury occurred and can be used to calculate lost wages.

Photos of your injuries and the accident scene: If you have any pictures of your injuries or the accident scene, it’s important to provide them to your attorney. These photos can help paint a clear picture of what happened and support your case.

Accident report: It’s also important to provide your attorney with a copy of the accident report. This report will outline what happened during the accident and can be used to prove that your injury was work-related.

Tip: When filling your workers’ comp accident report, make sure you include the following information:

  • Time and date of the accident
  • Location of the accident
  • Names of any witnesses
  • Description of the injury
  • Medical treatment you have undergone

Employment status records: Although employment records contain “obvious information,”  the information can play a significant role in proving your claim is merited. As such, make sure you provide documents on the following: date of hire, employment status, and position title.

Witness Statements: If there were any witnesses to your accident, it’s essential to get their statements. These statements can help corroborate your story and support your claim for workers’ compensation benefits.

Workers’ Compensation Claim Form: Another document you should provide your workers’ compensation attorney is the workers’ compensation claim form. This form will outline all the information about your injury, including when and how it occurred. Providing this form to your attorney will help them start building your case.
